skunk  (skngk) n.
1.a. Any of several small, mostly carnivorous New World mammals of the genus Mephitis and related genera, having a bushy tail and black fur with white markings and ejecting a foul-smelling oily liquid from glands near the anus when frightened or in danger. Also called polecat.
b. The glossy black and white fur of this mammal.

b. To fail to pay (an amount due).
 

Pre-season football games started last week, with newly signed players under evaluation. Generally, this is not an opportunity for skunking. There have been no reports of definition 1 by coaches or 2a by players or 2b by betting fans.

b. A person whose company is avoided. 
 

Until Keith and I deodorize the dogs, their beds and the house, we will be classified as slang definition 2b. When it smells better around here, we’ll entertain guests again, with the exception of 2a slang skunks – and the real ones.
